perhaps there’s a case for right aligned if it comes at the end of an extensive heading (or introductory paragraph, or part thereof), which would then only catch the users attention if they had enough interest to follow the whole text and wanted to know more…..eg like a (more) button.

either left or right it should be always visible near the center.

yah.. I must say I dont see where icon placement on an accordion really has to merit a post all its own (albeit given away for free,lol) but I DO like the site overall. Regarding this post- must be a slow news or brain freeze day!

I don’t think it’s right to label a definitive way of applying the technique. As stated above, it depends on the design and audience. For instance, I have seen Marius Roosendaal’s website mentioned many times in many blog posts and don’t believe I’ve ever heard anyone mention dislike towards the accordion’s icon placement for the website. As long as it’s a noticeable factor in the design, it should will work.

I would say that in most cases they should be on the left however, it should be evaluated in every design as I can see an argument for putting them on the right if the rest of the content placement supports it.

Interesting article. I say left align is best.
